ICU Digital Photography

Happy New Year 2014

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 01/06/14

Hello everyone, we're proud to announce that ICU Digital Photography have reached and met all of its goals for 2013. As you all will remember, we had a rocky 2013 start with our servers going down. We were a tad bit skeptical about recovery and how this would impact us as a company. By spring, we were fully up and running and right back in to the swing of things. Even with the set back we were able to meet our goals for the first quarter.

This year, our need for wedding services increased, our demand for high school senior portraits exploded from the seams, and our requests for cooperate photography tripled since we opened doors in 2009. This year, without a doubt, was one of our best years.

We can't thank our clients, friends and family enough. Your support helped us turn devastation into success.

What's in store for 2014? A changing of the guard, implementation of new software, a 2-4 week guaranteed delivery time, and newer upgraded equipment. We are excited and we invite you to grow with us!

Thank you all again, we are all looking forward to another successful record breaking year!!!

Happy Holidays!!!

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 11/26/12

Hello everyone, we're in the last quarter of 2012 and I'm proud to announce that ICU Digital Photography have reached and met ALL of its goals.

Our numbers have tripled since opening our doors in 2009. We welcome and embrace this new growth. Yes, this increase has had a huge impact on our staffing, editing and delivery times. Many of you had to wait weeks for your photos. Some cases, for months. For this we apologize. We are continuing to grow and things are not slowing down. To meet this new demand, we have added on interns and we have recruited new staff members whom are highly motivated and who are set to begin shooting and editing in early 2013.  We here are all excited.

I kept telling myself, “That this is just a hobby, and not to take any of this seriously”. It wasn’t till recently I’ve fallen to the realization that this is not just a passionate hobby of mine. This is actually a full blown Photography Entity. My passion has exploded into a corporation.  It’s this same passion and dedication I personally promise to deliver to each and everyone. I thank everyone who’s played a part in helping us grow.

For clients with active photo sessions, please feel free to check your status and estimated delivery time by clicking out "check your photo status" button (below).

Spring is Here!

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 04/01/12

Spring has finally sprung in beautiful Colorado, and we are taking full advantage of the recent gorgeous weather by shooting outside as much as possible. We're gearing up for a very busy spring and summer shooting schedule.

Last month my blog talked about how we wanted to set new records this year for our number of completed portfolios. We’re not even half way over with 2012 yet, and it looks like we will not only meet our goal but also surpass it.  Our upcoming photo shoots includes a little of everything newborns, families, high school seniors, engagements, and weddings. Our staff will even be traveling out of state to the west and then to the east coast for photo shoots.  At least boredom won’t be a problem for our Lead Photographer, Lauren Wilson.  I'm most excited about the upcoming wedding shoots. I don’t think that any photography studio can ever have too many wedding portfolios. Every wedding is different and every couple brings their own unique way of celebrating love.

I have had a lot on my mind this month. In addition to keeping track of our crazy schedule I have been thinking about how we can continue to set ourselves apart from the competition. Nowadays anyone owning a camera thinks they can call themselves a professional photographer. But the reality is that being a successful photographer is so much more than snapping a few pictures and hoping to get lucky. It takes a true commitment to studying and constant practice to perfect the "art of photography".  At ICU Digital Photography our photographer, Lauren Wilson, has made that commitment. Not only is he pursuing a formal education in photography but he also keeps up with the latest news in the photography world by attending trade shows, conferences and by networking with other professional photographers.  Our entire staff shares a passion for photography whether it's being behind the camera, editing the finished product or ensuring good customer service.  This is how we'll continue set ourselves apart from the competition.

Finally, as a heads up, we are working on a new and exciting business opportunity for ICU Digital Photography. More details coming soon!

Back on the Grind

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 01/25/12

After taking a two week break, the staff at ICU Digital Photography is back and ready to start booking photo sessions again.  We took time off at the end of the year to finish up all of our 2011 projects and to reenergize ourselves. Thank you to our wonderful clients for your understanding.

It's a brand new year and the perfect time to take a look back at the successes ICU Digital Photography had in 2011. Our goals for 2011 were simple. We wanted to increase our number of completed portfolios while still producing high quality photographs that our clients have come to expect.  I'm proud to say we met and exceeded our goals. Our number of completed photo shoots increased by 75% from 2009. For 2012 we expect to double our numbers. The staff at ICU Digital Photography is confident that we can meet this goal.

Want to help us meet this challenge?  Please take a moment to "like" us on Facebook ("like" button found at the bottom left of this blog).

As a thank you for your support and in celebration of the Year 2012, those of you that click the "like" button will receive a 12% break off our already discounted prices.

As a reminder, we do service the entire state of Colorado along with our bordering states (Wyoming, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah and Arizona). We are mobile, and we can come to you!

Our "in-house" professional studio is gone digital. We're now completely green-screen for all of our studio shoots. Just one more reason why you should chose us for all of your photo needs (show cased below are all green-screen, digital manipulation technology).

Happy Holidays

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 12/06/11

ICU Digital Photography would like to thank Kylie Ann Honomichl and Hono Monroe for trusting our staff to commemorate their wedding day. Kylie and Hono celebrated their love for each other on October 7, 2011 in a beautiful rustic ceremony in Black Forest. Please visit our facebook page to read their love story.

Our second portfolio spotlight is on Augustina Romero.   The grounds of the Broadmoor Hotel served as a beautiful backdrop for Augustina’s senior photos.   Augustina's natural beauty and Lauren's skill behind the camera combined to make an amazing portfolio. You can view this portfolio, as well as, all of our October and November portfolios on facebook.

ICU Digital Photography would like to wish you Happy Holidays from our family to yours.   The Holiday Season is a time for celebration, gift giving, and family togetherness.  The Holidays can also be a stressful and busy time.  There never seems to be enough time to squeeze in all of the holiday festivities, and trying to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list is enough to drive you crazy. Well have no fear because ICU Digital Photography can help you with your Christmas shopping.  We offer gift certificates for all of our packages.  A gift certificate for one of our photography packages makes  wonderful gift, and can be used up to a year after the issue date.  From now until the end of the year we are offering 50% off all of our packages if you purchase a full priced gift certificate of equal or lesser value.

Business is booming and our calendar is booked until the end of the year.  We now are scheduling photo sessions for the second week of January. Thank you to our wonderful customers for your continued support.

The Autumn Season

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 10/16/11

It's time to say goodbye to the hot sunny days of summer and hello to the cool crisp fall weather. I always feel a little sad when summer ends, but I look forward to the wonderful things that autumn in Colorado has to offer. My favorite things about this time of year are the crisp smell in the air, pumpkin spice lattes and the vivid colors of the falling leaves.  The colorful fall leaves also provide a beautiful backdrop for photo shoots.

Every photo shoot that our Lead Photographer, Lauren Wilson, completes is special and unique. Sometimes this can make it a little difficult for us to choose which portfolio to feature.  This month we decided to spotlight two of our recent photo shoots. The first photo shoot is of Pueblo High School Senior, Devon Schaffer.  My favorite thing about this photo shoot is the variety of settings used from agricultural to military. The second photo shoot is from the grand opening of the Yukon Rock and Roll Bar and Grill.  Make sure to visit our facebook page to read all about this great venue located in Colorado Springs.

Business has picked up quite a bit over the past few months.  While we are very grateful for the business, more photo shoots means a longer waiting period for you to receive your finished photos.  Currently we are delivering photos within two to three weeks of the initial photo shoot. This timeframe can vary depending on number of photos taken and amount of editing needed. This timeframe does not apply to Wedding shoots.

Beginning in November ICU Digital Photography will be charging a $25.00 additional rush fee for customers that need photos delivered is less than a week (without an appointment). Please let us know if you require a rush on your photographs at the time you book your appointment. Rush requests are not available for weddings.

Change Is In the Air

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 09/18/11

Change is in the air at ICU Digital Photography. Effective immediately, ownership of ICU Digital Photography is now in control of our Operations Manager Tina Dixon.

I am very excited and honored. We have had more than a few staff meetings and brainstorming sessions to discuss the direction we wanted take the business. One of the challenges we have recently faced is balancing the time spent on shoots with time spent managing the day to day operations of a small business.  By taking ownership of the company, I will focus my attention on the administrative duties, giving lead photographer, Lauren Wilson, invaluable time in our studio and locations shoots.  Change is an extremely powerful step in continue growth of business.  Lauren and I are optimistic that this ownership change will allow ICU Digital Photography to continue to flourish and prosper.

It has been an extremely busy yet wonderful summer.  I am sad to see summer coming to an end.  We have recentely updated our portfolios to include Lauren Wilson's powerful 100 days and nights of summer (2011).

September 17th marks the one year anniversary of ICU Digital Photography. We appreciate the love and support of our friends and family. We would also like to give a very special thank you to our new and repeat customers that we've had the pleasure of photographing during our first year of business. Your continued support of ICU Digital Photography has been essential to our success.  To celebrate our one year anniversary we are offering 25% off of our packages (wedding packages not included). Please be sure to take advantage of these special prices as they won't last long.

We love summer here @ ICU Photography!

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 07/09/11

We love summer here at ICU Photography. There always seems to be something to do and never a dull moment.  This summer is shaping up to be a really great one.  For starters Lauren Wilson (Lead Photographer) was one of the many official media photographers for the Tough Mudder in Avon, CO. For those of you not familiar with Tough Mudder it's a grueling 9 mile obstacle course that was designed by British Special Forces to build up strength, endurance, and mental stamina. ICU Photography was requested to shoot the Ft. Carson Evans Army Community Hospital ER Department (Keenan, Garcia, Newton, Cady, Bahla, Sylvester, Kessler & the Curtis brothers).

The Ft. Carson team was incredible and everyone finished the course.  Tough Mudder is our featured portfolio this month so don't forget to take a look at our warriors in motion. Because of the excellent work Lauren did at the Tough Mudder event, ICU Photography has also been invited by the Planning Organizations to photograph the Warrior and Metro Dash! Both of these are popular obstacle course races similar to Tough Mudder. ICU Photography has also been invited to photograph the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Denver Colorado.  We will feature these photographs in our August portfolio.

ICU Photography is still willing to donate photography services for worthy causes and events. Do you know of any public summer seasonal events that need a photographer?  Please let us know the name of the event, time, and location by simply leaving us a note, we will be happy to add it to our roster.

Ron Wilson, our camera technician and I will be taking some basic photography classes soon. I am taking the classes to gain a basic understanding of digital photography, and Ron will be refreshing his already strong knowledge of digital photography. We are both looking forward to the classes.

As a reminder we are no longer offering prints as part of our packages. All of our packages do come with a CD/DVD of your session so you are able to have the pictures of your choice printed at your convenience. By no longer offering prints we are able to shorten our "shoot to delivery" time, while still delivering world class customer service to our clients.

Catching Our Breath! Whew!

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 06/03/11

We apologize, it has been a busy few months both personally and professionally for the staff at ICU Digital Photography, so we haven't had the time to update the web page and blog. Things have slowed down a bit so I figured this was a great time to update everyone about our latest photo shoots and projects.

Our first featured photo shoot for spring 2011 was done for Marie Sollinger a published children's book author. This will be the second book that she has written with proceeds going to charity. Our goal for this photo shoot was to portray the deep bond between mother and child (photos can be found on our FaceBook page @ http://www.facebook.com/icudigitalphotography) Brandy Kuch graciously agreed to serve as our model for the photo shoot along with her daughter Adrianna. Brandy and Adrianna were both naturals in front of the camera and the pictures turned out beautifully. Lauren was able to capture the deep love that exists between a mother and child without making the photos look "staged". Raquel Cook (photo editor) CEO of Raquel Cook Photography took time out from her vacation to edit the photos. She deserves a special thank you because her editing skills made the finished photos look flawless. We can't wait to see the finished book thank you for trusting us with this project Ms Sollinger.

Giving back to our community has always been a big part of the way ICU Digital Photography does business. So we were more than happy to donate some of our photography packages for a silent auction to benefit the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Colorado (PWSA). Prader-Willi Syndrome (http://www.pwsderby.com/dw/derby) is a genetic disorder caused by the absence of active genetic material on chromosome 15. One of the goals of PWSA is to improve the quality of life and the life expectancy of those affected by PWSA. With ICU Digital Photography's donation and the donations of numerous other businesses PWSA raised close to $90,000 during its annual fundraising event. Thank You PWSA for asking us to be part of your fundraising event.

Our lead photographer Lauren Wilson has been busy studying photography under Jim Doenges. Mr. Doenges is a renown photographer throughout Colorado and a professor at Pikes Peak Community College (http://www.ppcc.edu/departments/photography/meet-the-faculty). The Photography Program at Pikes Peak Community College is in such high demand that acceptance into this Program requires a portfolio, an acceptable entrance exam score and an interview with the Dean Judith Kimbrell. We are all proud of Lauren for being accepted into the Program and finishing his second semester as a Professional Photographer (his 2nd semester class assignments

can be found on our FaceBook page @ http://www.facebook.com/icudigitalphotography).

My name is Adrian Kessler...

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 02/24/11

I was not planning on updating our blog again until next month, but I could not wait to share our latest photo shoot with you all. ICU Digital Photography had the opportunity to photograph Adrian Kessler. Adrian is the pregnant widow of one of our fallen soldiers. Her husband, Kevin Kessler was killed in action while in Afghanistan on August 30, 2010.

Everyone on the staff was a little on edge on the days leading up to the photo shoot. It was so important for us to honor Kevin Kessler's memory with dignity and respect, but we also wanted to portray the joy of impending motherhood. The moment Adrian and Senator (the family dog) warmly welcomed us into their home I knew the photo shoot would go well.  We all had a great time and Adrian was a wonderful model for us. Senator was even gracious enough to pose for a few pictures. We hope you enjoy this very special portfolio.

In addition to getting some great photographs Lauren Wilson (lead photographer) did an incredible job on the editing. The pictures in the Kessler portfolio that feature Kevin are the result of blending and merging pictures previously taken with new pictures (see photos above). One picture in the portfolio has up to three photos blended together. This process takes some artistic skill and patience. I really think Lauren did a great job. Ron also contributed to a successful photo shoot by being a prompt and through camera technician as usual.  Great Job on this one team!

Ugh! No More Cold Weather!

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 02/15/11

ICU Digital Photography have completed one of our first of many male portfolio photo shoots. US Army Ft Carson, CO Medic Nicholas Cady (pictured above) was our handsome model. The pictures will be updated on our portfolio page soon in the meantime you can view them on our facebook page at www.facebook.com/icudigitalphotography.

This recent frigid weather has really put a damper on our outdoor photo shoots and forced us to place some sessions on the back burner. The weather man is predicting warmer weather for the rest of February and March. I know Lauren (Lead Photographer) and Ron are anxious to get outdoors to complete our postponed photo shoots. We thank our customers for their continued patience.

One of my job duties with ICU Digital Photography is to scout out new and interesting locations for photo shoots. Colorado is a gorgeous state that provides a lot of beautiful areas that are ideal for a photography sessions. Garden of the Gods and Quail Lake provide a breathtaking backdrop for photographs but seem to be used by every photographer in the state of Colorado. ICU Digital Photography likes to stand apart from the crowd, so this month I am on a quest to find new and never before used locations. I am looking for areas anywhere in Colorado.

I would love to hear your ideas. Please share them with me by using the comments link below. I can't wait to hear from you!

Valentine's Day Special

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 01/27/11

February 14th people all over the world will be celebrating love by giving cards, flowers, and candy. There are many legends and myths surrounding the origin of Valentine's also known as Saint Valentine's Day. One of the most popular stories about the origins of Valentine's Day began in ancient Rome while it was under the rule of an emperor known as Claudius the Cruel. During his reign Emperor Claudius II was having difficult time getting men to join the military. Claudius felt that men did not want to join the military because they did not want to part with their loves or families. So he outlawed all marriages and engagements in order to grow his army. Saint Valentine, a Christian priest began to marry couples in secret until he was arrested around the year 270. He was executed for his crimes on February 14th. Before he died the legend says that Saint Valentine left a note for the jailer's daughter to thank her for her friendship while he was in prison. Saint Valentine signed his note, "Love from your Valentine".

To celebrate Valentine's Day from now until the end of February all photo packages are 25% off. In addition to 25% off we are also offering a free framed 8x10 collage of your top three favorite pictures from your photo session. A sexy picture of yourself or as a couple makes a wonderful gift for your sweetheart so make sure to take advantage of our special.

You don't need a significant other to take advantage of our Valentine's Day special.  With 25% off all of our packages now is the perfect time to take some updated pictures to spruce up your FaceBook or MySpace page.

Happy New Year 2011!!!

by Lauren Wilson- Director of Photography on 01/06/11

Happy New Year from your friends at ICU Digital Photography. 2010 turned out to be an incredible year for ICU Digital Photography.  At the beginning of the year ICU Digital Photography literally consisted of a man with a passion for photography. Today, we are a registered business with a staff of six.

When we first opened our doors as a small business our staff made a decision work part time "pro bono" for the first year.  Our decision to work part time "pro bono" was not something we took lightly. After all how can you stay in business without making money?

Looking back on 2010 we realize that we made a good decision. Providing our services for free to selected individuals allowed us to build our portfolio and make valuable connections with our customers. It also allowed Lauren Wilson- Lead Photographer to strengthen his already amazing skills by photographing animals, children and live action shots.

There were many great moments for us in 2010. We can't thank our clients, friends and family enough. Your support is what has kept us going last year. We appreciate each and every person that has allowed us to capture their unique beauty in pictures.
